BSMHFT join in on Workout at Work Day

Published: 10/06/2014

Staff from across BSMHFT joined our Physiotherapy team to take part in workout sessions last week in support of Workout at Work Day 2014.

Workout at Work Day is an annual awareness day which aims to encourage people to develop healthier work habits. Sitting for long periods, not taking a lunch break or working on smart phones and other devices late into the evening can all take a toll on health and lead to time off work.

Physical sessions including desk based exercises, boxercise and zumba were held at various sites for staff to get active and join in the fun. Chief Executive, John Short tested his cycling strengths against staff in a bike challenge at our Trust headquarters.

Sai Iyer, Head of Physical Therapy and Well Being Services, said: "Workout at Work Day is a great initiative to get staff away from their desks to take regular breaks and exercise. It was great to see staff come along to the sessions to see how easy and enjoyable a light lunchtime workout can be.”
