BSMHFT nationally recognised for sustainability report

BSMHFT has been nationally recognised by the Sustainable Development Unit (SDU) as an example of ‘best practice’ for our 2012/13 sustainability report.

Our Trust each year is required to produce an environmental sustainability report for the Department of Health. The SDU reviewed the quality of sustainability reporting in Annual Reports and identified some examples of best practice, which you can download here.

Along with Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, BSMHFT has been included in the SDU’s list of best practice for mental health and learning disability.

Measuring, monitoring and reporting on sustainability through the annual report supports the assurance process for meeting legal, reputational and policy requirements. NHS Standard Contract includes a requirement for providers to demonstrate and report progress on adaptation and mitigation.

Neil Cross, Sustainable Development and Energy Manager for BSMHFT said: “We’re very proud to have been recognised by the SDU for our sustainability report. Sustainability is about managing resources better and minimising the waste associated with that resource and it is important that our Trust continues to demonstrate its commitment to this.”
