The Barberry Centre will be hosting an event 18 December, dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of carers.

The ‘Compassionate cuppa for carers’ is a drop in event that will give carers across the community a chance to meet up, share their experiences and get support if needed.

Being a full-time carer for someone with a mental illness can be a very positive and rewarding experience to know you are helping someone else. However, some carers may experience challenges and difficult feelings such as:

Stress and worry – Particularly if you spend a lot of time thinking about their health and what will happen in the future, it may feel hard for you to switch off.

Anxiety – Many carers say that they feel a constant anxiety about the person they care for. If your feelings of anxiety are strong or last for a very long time, they can become overwhelming. They may impact your ability to live your life as fully as you want to.

Run by Nagina Kiren, Participation and Experience Worker, the Compassionate cuppa for carers is a safe space where carers can meet others in similar circumstances. Occupational therapists and psychologists will also be present to support the delivery of creative self-care activities such as positive affirmation cards or a gratitude prompt sheet.

If you know of any carers that you think could benefit from attending, please make them aware of this event.
