Having an unhealthy relationship with food, weight or body image can take over your life and make you seriously ill. The most common eating disorders are anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder (BED) and, avoidant/ restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).

Information and support for men – Approximately 1.25million people in the UK have an eating disorder. Around 25% of those affected by an eating disorder identify as men. Read BEAT’s article on eating disorders and how to get support.
A guide for young people (under the age of 19) – BEAT has designated pages to help young people who may be struggling with an eating problem including an eating disorder. They also provide one-to-one web chats and a HelpFinder to see what eating disorder support is available in your area.
Solar is a partnership between BSMHFT, Barnardo’s and Autism West Midlands. It provides emotional wellbeing and mental health services to children, young people and families in Solihull.
Forward Thinking Birmingham also offers support, care and treatment for 0-25-year-olds living in Birmingham who need help with their mental health. They also aim to involve families/guardians/ carers in their care and treatment wherever possible.
Support for parents and carers – The NHS has a helpful webpage on how parents can support their child with an eating disorder. Tips from how to talk to your teen to mealtime tips can all be found online.
How to be a supportive friend – It can be tough to understand how a friend is feeling but letting them know you are there for them is a big first step. Mind has shared an informative video that offers advice on the best things to say and the best actions to take.
