A huge well done to the Older Adults Community Mental Health team, March’s Team of the Month. They have been recognised for setting up a successful community-based group for service users struggling with low motivation, loss of role identity, anxiety, and depression.

The community occupational therapy team at Solihull have set up a community-based group for service users struggling with low motivation, loss of role identity, anxiety, and depression. This means that they receive swift, appropriate treatment or therapy in a setting to suit them. The team maintain a high quality of care and look at ways to improve the service users lives through the work they do and liaising with other organisations. This often means working with people’s carers, families, and the wider community to help them lead purposeful lives among people who accept them. It also breaks down the stigma which can accompany mental health problems and lead to social isolation. The service users who have attended the group have said that they can see it’s having a really positive impact on their lives and the lives of their families. They’ve been able to go out for family occasions, see friends and participate in tasks around their homes. One service user has been on holiday for the first time in three years, with a very happy wife!
