On Wednesday 26 February we received the sad news that our Deputy Lead Governor, Mustak Mirza, passed away.
Mustak had been associated with the Trust for over 20 years and had been a Governor for seven years. Then he took up the role of Deputy Lead Governor in 2022 and has been instrumental in the development and leadership of the Patient Experience and Recovery Forum which he chaired.
Chief Executive, Roísìn Fallon-Williams, said:
“Having been a Governor and an advocate for the Trust for many years, Mustak’s compassion, drive and dedication for improving the lives of others will be an eternal legacy and he will be sorely missed.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues at this sad time.”
Representatives from the Trust including executives, governors and Mustak’s current and former colleagues attended prayer services (Salaat-ul-Janaza) at Birmingham Central Mosque and Mustak’s burial at Quinton Cemetery on Thursday 27 February.
BSMHFT’s Lead Governor, John Travers, said:
“Mustak showed us all how to put compassion and humility to the front of our minds in thinking about the way we care for and support each other while developing better mental health services.
“He gave his time to many aspects of our Trust life with humble gratitude and sought always to see the good in people and to make our world a warmer, kinder place.”
A BSMHFT-led memorial service for Mustak is expected to take place in the spring.
