We are nearly at the end of the South Asian Heritage Month celebrations, but we still have more shoutouts. Today we are celebrating Prabhjot Virk, Art Psychotherapist, who was nominated by Fay Cook.
Fay said:
“Prabhjot, also known to us as Prabhs, embodies our Trust Values and demonstrates them in her work. As well as being a fantastic clinician and leader, she is also always willing to support individuals, teams, services and the wider Trust to think about culture, equality and diversity. Prabhs is always open to new ideas and new ways of working and has embraced using her art psychotherapy skills in our team and adapting them to our client group and to working with teams. She has recently trained in Mentalisation Based Treatment (MBT) and is now an accredited practitioner in this. She is a key leader in developing this approach, which is new to our Trust, and as well as delivering the intervention both individually and in groups, she is supporting others training in MBT. Prabhs is highly valued by our team, by the Arts Psychotherapies service, by the various teams she works alongside, and of course by the service users she works with. We know Prabhs will be a significant leader in our Trust and we are all very proud of her.”
We touched base with Prabhjot who shared with us a bit more about her heritage:
“I am a Punjabi Sikh, Old India (when India and Pakistan were one country), British woman who grew up in London and moved to Birmingham five years ago.
“There are so many things that I love about my heritage but one of the biggest things is how it has shown me how food brings people together (langar) and everyone is welcome to share off the same plate.
“It has been the fundamental base for my passion and commitment for breaking barriers of oppression and recognising that we are all Ek (one).”
