Inpatient services are provided to older adults with mental health issues at our Juniper Centre, Moseley and Ashcroft Unit in Hockley.
All units offer 24-hour specialist mental health care for service users with an acute organic (such as dementia) or functional (such as depression or psychosis) ongoing mental health issue.
Who uses our service
The service is provided predominantly for people aged 65 and over, but not exclusively, depending on service user need, such as working age dementia.

How we can help
All units offer 24-hour specialist mental health care for service users with an acute organic or functional ongoing mental health issue.
The service provides:
- Comprehensive assessment by a multidisciplinary team,
- diagnosis,
- treatment,
- individual care plan,
- therapeutic needs led interventions,
- carer support, assessment, education, and
- comprehensive discharge planning.
All care provided will respond to the emotional, psychiatric, physical, social, spiritual and cultural needs of the service user delivered through a person-centred approach.
How to access our services
All referrals to specialist mental health services are received via the single point of access within the local
community mental health team (CMHT). The decision to admit to an inpatient area is taken by the CMHT, following consultation with the bed manager and an initial screening assessment. Referrals can come from:
- GPs,
- acute hospital trusts,
- voluntary services – via GP,
- adjoining mental health trusts,
- services for adults,
- residential and specialist nursing homes – via GP, or
- day centres (voluntary and statutory) – via GP.
All requests for admissions must have received a medical assessment,
