HCPC Return to Practice Guidance

Returning to practice is a self-directed process. To become registered with the HCPC you will be required to complete a minimum number of hours to update your clinical skills and knowledge.

Time out of practice / unregistered Minimum time required to update skills and knowledge

The required timeframes can be made up of supervised practice, formal study or private study (No more than 50% of the total hours can be private study).

Up to 2 years

2 to 5 years

Over 5 years

No return to practice requirements

30 days (210 hours)

60 days (420 hours)

Please note: If you have any fitness/conditions to practice issues cited against you by the HCPC you would not be eligible for return to practice. Therefore, we do ask for a HCPC registration status letter which you can get by emailing HCPC on registration@hcpc-uk.org

 

Funding Available to Support AHP Return to Practice

NHS Health Education England (HEE) will provide up to £800 to AHPs returning to practice to assist with costs and expenses such as purchasing books, car parking, childcare etc. HEE will also pay for some courses relevant to returnees. The funding is available for AHPs who currently reside and work in England.
